Reuse, Recycle, ReTIE

Gotta love a gal who can pull off a tie.  Annie Lenox & Annie Hall made a very manly accessory look soooo very right.  I sported a tie all through out high school, college, & into my 2o's.  And then the demise of my love for neck ties came when Avril Lavigne declared her "punk-dom" (also known as punk-and she is plain old dumb).  She wore a tie everywhere & claimed herself cool meets anarchist.  I wanted to puke!

As Avril's career turns to main stream & the world has forgotten the tie, I am inclined to revisit my favorite dapper accessory.  Beyond your typical slip knot for the neck or waist, a tie can be so much more.

*Tip: Best place to find great ties is your Bubby's attic or the thrift store (which I used to drag my Bubby alava shulem to for her senior citizen discount...she hated that...Bubby would say "Jessica, my lichtige kindella, I'd be more than happy to take you to Macy's but please don't take me to the Good Will in Gloversville to get a discount; my friends will see!"

Tie Roses
(gotta love the model!...she's sporting the hair clip and elastic)

Items Needed:
*6 ties
*1//2 yard or sheet of black felt
*some sort of closure: broach pin, hair clip, elastic...world of possibilities
*1" round button
*glue gun and glue stick
*strong thread and needle
*fabric scissors
*dress pins and tape measure

How to:
1.  Cut small back tips off of each tie about 2" long (repeat for all 6 ties)
2.  Sew all tips together by hand pulling and gathering each one to form a flower out of all 6 tie tips.  Knot at end but do not cut thread.
3. On right side sew button to center, knot and cut thread
4. Cut approximately 1 1/2" circle out of felt
5. Glue felt to center back of flower
6. Glue pin (or any closure) to middle/center of black felt...VOILA!

*Back Closures: hair clip and broach pin
As a Broach...
this model was not happy to be part of the shoot.

*For the love of all thing ties
I made this adjustable tie skirt for when my weight peaked in pregnancy.  And because it is adjustable I can wear it now that I am easing my body back to single digit sizes.

Enjoy!  Tell a friend.
